Running Training Groups on the Isle of Wight

Are you looking for company on your runs or visiting the Isle Of Wight and would like to meet up with other runners? Here is a list of friendly training groups and running activities that are currently available.

Every Saturday – 5KM parkrun nr. Newport

There’s a 5KM ParkRun most Saturdays at Seaclose Park/Medina Leisure Centre. Everyone is welcome to this free weekly event, regardless of speed or ability, which assembles at 8:45am for a 9:00am start. If you’re not a regular please check the news section of the Medina ParkRun website for the latest details as locations do change to accommodate events at Seaclose. Monday – Wootton Bridge Runners

Wootton Bridge runners is an informal friendly group that usually meet up at 18:45 on Mondays. To find out more about them or join them on their runs visit the Wootton Bridge Runners facebook group.

Tuesday – Beginners & Novices Running Group in Newport

On Tuesday evenings a group aimed and beginner and novice runners meet in Newport at 6pm. They usually form a couple of groups, based on your ability, that cover between 2 and 4 miles. Everything’s very relaxed and it’s completely free too! Wednesday – West Wight Road Runners

Almost every Wednesday West Wight Road Runners meet at 7pm for their 7.15pm weekly run which varies from 6-10km. During the Winter months runs start from West Wight Sports Centre and during Summer months they start from rural locations all over the Island and are primarily off-road. Non-members and runners of any ability or speed are welcomed to any Wednesday run with open arms by this friendly group. Find more information on the mid-week runs at

Wednesday & Sunday – Godshill Massive

Godshill Massive is a friendly group of runners that regularly run countryside routes. The routes vary from 5 miles up to 15 miles and there is often mud and hills involved. The runs often happen on Sundays 09:00 and Wednesdays 18:30. Everyone is welcome, simply join the Godshill Massive facebook group for more info.

Various Sundays – IOW Hash House Harriers

On various Sundays this mad bunch of lunatics meet for their fix of hashing exercise and fun. You don’t have to be a member and they welcome all-comers in their own special way! If hashing is of interest to you, followed by a social pint afterwards, you can get more information from IOW Hash House Harriers.

Sunday (usually every 2nd month) – Wight Orienteers

If taxing you brain to the full whilst trying to run the shortest, fastest routes at speed across whatever the terrain throws at you is your thing then look up WIGHTO. They are the Isle Of Wight’s orienteering club and usually put on an event every second month. Events can be in forests/woods or on down-land. During the Summer months they organise quiz walks from various idyllic locations, often with prizes for the winners.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced map reader, a fast runner, a rambler or a slow walker, member or non-member, it doesn’t matter – the friendly WIGHTO club are very welcoming. If this interests you more information can be found at

West Wight Community Running Group

West Wight Community Running Group meet various days of the week. It’s for those wanted to run local to the West of the Island area and are looking for support and company. On a Saturday they also hold a Couch to 5km program from West Wight Sports Centre. Go to their facebook group for more information on what runs are going on.
